Baptism and Chrismation

In the Book of Acts we see the Apostles baptized new Christians in the name of The Father Son and Holy Spirit for the remission of sin. They would then lay hands on the new Christians so they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is Chrismation - due to the separation of the Church it is called Confirmation by the western church. Chrismation outside of the Orthodox Church is not considered valid, and is performed on new converts. However, Baptisms done in the Name of the Holy Trinity with the understanding of the importance of the Sacrament by Roman Catholic, Lutheran, Anglican and Methodist Churches are considered valid in the Orthodox Church. As we only recognize one Baptism for the remission of sin, we bring Catechumens from the backgrounds into the church with a lifetime Confession followed by Chrismation.
