Baptism and Chrismation In the Book of Acts we see the Apostles baptized new Christians in the name of The Father Son and Holy Spirit for the remission of sin. They would then lay hands on the new Christians so they would receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This is Chrismation - due to the separation of the Church it is called Confirmation by the western church. Chrismation outside of the Orthodox Church is not considered valid, and is performed on new converts.
